My Huntington Bank Branch Manager suggested that I sign up for free text notification should I overdraft my account. With this notice I would be able to come in to the branch within 24 hours of the overdraft and make it good without incurring any bank fees. I had him sign me up while I sat there.

Huntington failed to text me on a subsequent over draft event thus eliminating my opportunity to get to the Huntington Bank branch in time to correct the situation without paying additional fees. While I discussed their oversight with my branch manager, their collection agents, and left a voice mail for the district manager the fees piled up. My original $40 dollar OD is now almost $450 with fee after fee after bank fee. I cannot get a return call and nobody is willing to help me. I received an offer to have $100 in fees eliminated but rejected this.

Bank's faults -- I should have to pay to make good my original OD but no fees whatsoever.

I am not sure about some of the comments that are being posted. My account was not in overdraft.

I know how to add and subtract. I had auto payments coming out that was linked to my debit card. Because Huntington Bank deactivated my card those auto payments did not go through. Huntington Bank should have stated when you have a dispute of a charge it is their policy to deactivate your debit card.

If Huntington Bank would have informed me that they were going to deactivate my card I would have had the chance to have my payments taken directly out of my account by check or by a credit card. So, the payments that came out made it seem like I did not have the funds to make the payments, which is not the case. Also, to the comment that I deserved what I got. You could not be more inaccurate.

The serve I used that was CANCELLED on 11/01/2023 I have the emails from :peoplefinders that my contract was terminated and that all auto payments were cancelled.

That is why the bank refunded the charge. I would never expect any bank to credit my account for my error.

I keep track of my checking account. When I do overdraw, I go in the next day and cover it. Never had a problem.

yes, I understand your pain. when Huntington gets the opportunity to take your money they don't hesitate to do so...and its so easy; because they have it !

The text alerts are a service and there is a disclaimer that it is ultimately YOUR responsibility to know what is going on with your account. I don't get all of my texts from everyone 100% of the time, that is why a REGISTER is the best method. I know it sounds ancient, but it's still the best way to go.

So I know everyone one is saying u should know what's in ur account but the bank mgr where I opened my account told me that if I had no money the day before pay day just go ahead n spend it cause they cover it

Payment coupon lists due date, and the date that late fees will be charged. Payments always before late fee date, calls to automated number NEVER indicated fees were charged. Down to 2 payments and find out that they charged fees anyway, just tacked it onto the end!!!!

Well thank god you never make ANY mistakes! Some people have unexpected bills; or something come up.

OR maybe even a monthly deduction we accidently forget about! Be careful being so judging of others; for one day you may make a mistake and someone may not forgive you EITHER

First..

You are an adult who should be able to add and subtact.

This being said, if you make a deposit you know how much money you have in the bank.

If you take some money from that balance you know how much is left.

Overdrafting $40.00 is NOT an accident, you knew you didn't have that much in the bank.

WHY? WHY? Why, then, does the bank, or anyone, have to "notify" you that you have an overdraft?

Maybe you should not have a bank account?

The bank is just that, a BANK, not a babysitting service.

"Why, then, does the bank, or anyone, have to "notify" you that you have an overdraft"

Because they SAID they would. That's what the 24 hour grace is supposed to do. The offered a service and failed to provide the service.

the text alert service dislcaimer clearly states they are not at fault if the message does not make it to your phone. further, the appropriate alert that should be set up is the one for if the account reaches a certain threshold before the account goes negative in the first place.

also, it depends on if the account is opted in or out of the federal overdraft notification. That means that if you are opted OUT the debit card and or check transaction would be declined or returned (with a RETURN fee) if it would cause the account to go negative or not have sufficient funds to cover. You can make this choice at any time and as many times as you wish. If you opt IN, that means the financial institution has your PERMISSION to ALLOW the transaction to cause overdraft and charge the appropriate fee for paying something on your behalf (similar to a payday loan or charging interest).

You have the option of opting IN or OUT on both debit card and check transactions. If you do not want to get charged a fee then don't make risky transactions...it's that simple. Otherwise, make the appropriate opt in/out selection and get a savings account to protect the checking account for overdraft PROTECTION. i realize it's hard to save; but $5 a week is manageable by almost everyone to get started.

don't buy that game on facebook...skip the Starbucks...I work for a bank and I see what people overdraft on and it's usually something *** and unnecessary and when they get caught they realize it and then are mad and take it out on the bank. How fair is that when you look at it that way?
