Generally, they are unable to handle simple transactions. Branches never seem to have a manager on duty.
However, when they do, the managers are poorly trained in that they can't complete simple tasks, which, in the past, bank managers did without issue. Online customer service will send you overseas every time. Coinbase is a scam, according to online customer service. This is Wells Fargo 2.0, if you remember that.
The big question to me is, what do branches actually do?
It seems like more overhead they can cut. It also seems like they do not want US customers.
Preferred solution: Apology
User's recommendation: Don’t come here. Use a credit union instead.
When I tried to transfer money from my Huntington account to a new account in another state Huntington froze my accounts and shut off my access to my on line account.
I'm all I spoke to Huntington reps over a dozen times. Most insisted that I had to bring a check from the new bank in Utah into a branch in Ohio.
They offered no other help.
Finally, a banker in a branch transferred my money market fund into my checking account so I could at least write checks.
Making call after call, I finally got someone who have my correct info, although it took another week for them to unlock my online access. In all, this nightmare went on for 41 days.
User's recommendation: Don't go there.
Cannot access funds that were sent by ACH to me
I was notified I received an ACH deposit and then they put it on hold and no one can tell me when my funds will be available or why it is on hold.

Verified Reviewer | Chicago, IllinoisBad business practices - dishonest and apathetic
Huntington has strange policies that they implement whenever they feel like it with no warning and no disclosure as to the reasons why. Holds on checks, freezing and "revoking" your online banking, no phone support.
If they do something to you to make your life more difficult - which they will - they do not acknowledge the inconvenience. You cannot have them fix anything over the phone, you will be commanded to a branch, where they are aloof and rude and take their sweet slow time "helping" you. Do not open an account with them, you will be miserable dealing with Huntington. I have had them arbitrarily block my access to my account for the last time.
Customer for two year, no overdrafts, no issues caused by me, good balance, and treated like garbage by their policies and employees. Horrible bank.
- Agressive policies toward customers
Preferred solution: I can't get what I want from Huntington which is uninterrupted access to my online banking, and to be treated fairly and to have reasonable phone support, so I am closing my account.
User's recommendation: Do not become one of their victims
Scheduled maintenance and 24/7 customer service is BS!!
This scheduled online maintenance for every Saturday night on the app is so frustrating its not even funny. Not only can I not access my accounts for roughly 12 hours every Saturday night, but I also cant get ahold of their supposed 24/7 customer service support line due to scheduled maintenance.
You guys seriously need to have maintenance done on the app EVERY SATURDAY NIGHT?! I cant transfer money between my own two accounts!! Ill be switching to a different bank very soon. Huntington has the worst customer service availability, and to not have access to my own accounts is just unacceptable.
And at least other banks offer some kind of welcome bonus for opening an account with them Huntington? Nothing that Ive seen.
Worst bank Ive ever dealt with. Ally or chase have to be better
- Small enough to be more personal
- Customer service is not 24
- Online banking is down every saturday night
- Multiple numbers for the same customer service line
Preferred solution: Apology
User's recommendation: Do not bank here. There are much better options with more availability nation wide.
Worse customer service
Been making payments for 2 years on this account for my significant other of 37 years and I have power of attorney today they would not accept my cash payment on this account they were rude and disrespectful. They need to be consistent on their guidelines, customer service is NOT happening here!!! I will never bank at this facility again!!!
User's recommendation: Go somewhere else!!!

Verified ReviewerCustomer Service Representative was incompetent
I had a charge to my account for $14.95 for a subscription renewal that I did not authorize. I called Huntington Bank and disputed the charge.
The customer service representative told me she was going to close my debit card. I told her I did not want my card closed, that I had my son's tuition payments and other automatic payments coming out at the beginning of the week. I explained I needed to take care of all the auto payments before my card was closed. She assured me my card would not be closed and, I reconfirmed this with her.
Of course, my card was closed, payments bounced out and when I called Huntington Bank a supervisor told me once a credit was issued, my debit card would automatically be closed out and this should have been explained to me. It was not, and my payments for several businesses were rejected, causing a lot of frustration and embarrassment. If that is their bank policy, I completely understand but, when you are assured that your debit card will not be closed, and it was. Then you either being lied to or a bank employee is completely incompetent and should not be in that position.
You need to be able to trust that your account is safe with professionals you can trust. I used to trust Huntington Bank now I no longer do. I work in real estate, and I close mortgages with Huntington Bank all the time.
I would not recommend this bank anymore, for banking or mortgages. In my opinion you cannot trust what they are telling you.
User's recommendation: I would choose a different bank.

Verified ReviewerStolen money
I have been with this bank for a few years and when my money was stolen, Huntington did not notify me like other banks do. Over $10,000 was taken out of my account and every time I contacted them after filing a dispute they said they were looking into it.
The next thing I knew, they closed my accounts and sent me the remaining amount that was in my account. Do not trust this bank they will take your money as well.
Preferred solution: Full refund

Verified ReviewerMy checks was deposit to not my account
I went to Huntington Bank on 493 Torrence Ave Calumet City, IL60409 to make deposit I give my checks to Patricia Alvar Banker, I give her my ID and my Bank Card, she gives me the receipt. When I check the receipt, my balance was incorrect I ask her to check everything and she told me that is correct balance I was scared that someone stole my money, I come home and check my account.
The balance was correct not like on receipt when I check the receipt and my account nr. the nr on receipt was totally different. I come back to bank and find out that she the posit my money to totally different account which was not my. she was very rude no explanation or apology.
I need wait so manager can fix this problem.
Also is not her first mistake. She should not work in the bank she is very irresponsible person.
Blocking Bill from being paid on time
I secured a Home Equity Loan with Genisys Credit Union in November 2023. The amount billed monthly is "PULLED Automatically" from my Huntington Checking Account on the 3rd of each month.
This arrangement was configured with Genisys Credit Union, which is faster and easier than through the standard "Bill Pay" process, since it poses a significant delay internally with their process. Genisys Credit Union has indicated on my Home Equity Loan Account as Pass Due. However, probability is high that the automatic withdraw for Genesis Credit Union will be released on Monday 2/5/2024, when the bill is actually due on 2/3/2024, (Saturday). This has been an ongoing problem with Huntington Bank internal process, (typical for some business models in delaying paying out bills to reflect their "Cash On Hand" amounts by 1-5 days).
With other automatic bill paying, (electronic transactions), Huntington delays reflecting to "POSTING" vs "PENDING", sometimes by 4 to 5 days. This is NOT a dependable method to manage accounting processes.
When asking the Branch Manager, or Staff, they simply say, "THERE'S NOTHING WE CAN DO, IT'S Corporate that controls that. Therefore, all indications are Huntington Bank is NOT a reliable banking institution and I will be soon, closing my Huntington Bank Accounts.ontd

Verified Reviewer | Colorado Springs, ColoradoOverdrawing me when I had settings to prevent it.
My account settings are set to not allow a charge if I have no funds to cover it. Twice in one week, I have had to call customer service to have a stop payment on the same charge.
I must say the customer service representative was courteous and knowledgeable, but it kept happening.
Like many, I resent my customer service call to be fielded in a foreign country.
Another way the bank increases its big profits by farming out to people who only get paid nickels and dimes compared to American workers.
I love the employees at my local branch, but that is all. It was much better when it was TCF Bank.
As soon as I can, I am moving to a local Credit Union.
User's recommendation: Support a local credit union instead of a bank.

A payment was made through bill pay. The payee is still billing me.
The payment went out 8/22 $14.30. I have made 4 phone calls and no one seems to know how to assist me. I was told to get a fax number so Huntington could fax proof of payment to the payee. When I called back with the fax number I was told Huntington does not do that.
How can I get proof of payment to the payee? I am about ready to switch banks. I have been a customer through all the name changes etc. since 1989.
This is ridiculous. Huntington needs to spend some time training employees in customer service.
I called and asked to speak to a supervisor. She told me that I have to give the payee a copy of my bank statement to the payee. How does that prove anything to them?
It shows the money went out of my account. It doesn't prove that Huntington actually sent it. I was advised that there is no confirmation I can send to the payee.
I would like to write a letter to the editor of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette to advise people that your bank posts charges to customers accounts, but cannot verify that the payment was actually sent. Why isn't there some type of transaction code or confirmation I can show the payee?
It appears Huntington can just say they send money out and not know where it goes. The public needs to know this.
Please explain this practice.

SI scheduled 3 car payments for October, November and December each for $504.45. They debited my credit union account for all 3 in October.
I immediately called them and suggested they electronically refund the 2 payments they erroneously deducted. Well, despite the fact they can deduct electronically they cant refund electronically. They can only send a check through USPS. Its been close to a month now and no refund check.
Even after numerous calls, hour on the phone, Im still getting the old, The check is in the mail excuse. They have deducted the two erroneous payments as though theyve been refunded.
Now I have to make yet another $504.45 payment so my November payment is not late. These people are outright thieves.
- No pros
- Too many to list
Preferred solution: Full refund

And by disputing that charge it is also up to the bank to close/not close the account. That woman just put the dispute in.
